Found in a walnut grove next to a cornfield, sunk to the axles, this Spartan had not left that property in 71 years.  The original owner had picked the trailer up at the factory in Tulsa, OK in 1949.  He towed it back to Ripon, WI. using a 1948 Oldsmobile with a Slimp Dolly,  where it was parked and used as a guest house until sometime in the 70's or '80s when it was turned into a storage shed, until we rescued it and brought to Colorado in 2020.

May 2021

After almost 6 months and 1400 hours, the restoration was completed in April 2021. The entire interior was gutted, a new subfloor, Marnolum flooring, wiring, insulation, plumbing, and the windows were resealed. The paneling was either replaced or sanded to bare wood and reinstalled.  All the cabinets were rebuilt, repaired, and sanded. The interior was sprayed with multiple coats of Amber Shellac. The Dinette cushions were reupholstered using the original spring and frames, the front couch was recreated based on the original, and the chair is the original to the trailer, all upholstered in commercial fabric. The exterior was left original besides polishing and holes were patched and sealed using aluminum and rivets.  Dings and scratches were left as the trailer is meant to be used and they tell the story of how this trailer was treated prior to be rescued.

Where the Spartan has Traveled and has been Recognized

Since the Restoration has been completed, the '49 Spartan has traveled all throughout Colorado and visited 9 States.(Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.)

It has been in VCT Magazine twice (featured in Issue #58 Nov/Dec 2021, mentioned in Issue #61 May/June 2022)
