Trailer Whisperer
Specializing in Pre-1965 Trailer Restoration and Renovation, Since 2012
Trailer Whisperer: Hitch Up and Let's Go!
Trailer Whisperer started in 2012 as a hobby when Jessica and Robert bought a 1961 Shasta Astrodome and restored it into an AirFlyte. That little trailer took us on many journeys; from learning how to restore trailers, to trips around the country, and from a hobby to a business.
Jessica and Robert share a love for all things Art Deco and Mid Century Modern. They have restored a 1939 International Style Deco house and currently live in a Mid Century ranch house which they work on when time allows. Robert, a born collector, has collected and restored bicycles from the "Balloon Tire and Muscle Bike" era, Honda mini-bikes, and for a time even had a small collection of classic cars: a 1957 Pontiac Safari Wagon, a 1958 Jeep FC170, and a 1955 Ford Wonder Bread Delivery truck. Basically, anything that has wheels...even Matchbox cars growing up!
As a woodworker and interior trim contractor since 1998, Robert found working on trailers more relaxing and enjoyable than working on houses, as it combines his two passions; woodworking and mechanics. Currently, Jessica works in corporate America for a 3D design software company; she is our seamstress, and does all our upholstery work, but as we get bigger and busier that may change.
We specialize in Spartan trailers but cut our teeth on pre-1965 wood-framed trailers. The reason we only do pre-1965 trailers is after that point in time, trailers got boxy and lost their streamlined designs (Airstream, Streamline, and Silver Streak being the exception). Most of the interiors went to laminated press board cabinets and white walls instead of the gorgeous wood interiors that make vintage trailers feel warm and cozy. We currently do everything in-house except for the awning. We reverse engineer the trailer; we do not believe in reinventing the wheel, so the trailer will be rebuilt using the correct type and thickness material. You won't find MDF, pressure-treated wood, or OSB in one of our trailers! Assuring your piece of Americana can make memories for years to come.
